Press release

On October 14, the Barcelona Nautical Faculty of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia hosted the final conference of the “Skills Beyond the Seas” project. The results of this Erasmus+ project funded by the European Union were presented at this meeting.

This initiative has created a new digital tool, designed to facilitate a long-term perspective for seafarers who want to change their profession from ship to other professions on land. The project developed the SkillsPath Tool and the Informal Skills Scanner, which are online applications that assess and compare the formal and informal knowledge and skills of seafarers and demonstrate their applicability in other terrestrial professions.

The conference was attended by the General Director of the Merchant Navy, Benito Núñez, Ismael Cobos, delegate of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Antonio Padrón, IMO ambassador, as well as the project leader Sea Teach and the project partners Turk Loydu, Facultat de Nàutica de Barcelona-UPC, Maritime Faculty of University of Rijeka and Danmar Computers.
